Select a Scanner
This topic describes how to select a scanner type in Desktop.
The selected scanner appears in the Auth Session Results panel.
Before you begin
Before you begin, ensure the scanner is operational and works properly.
Update or connect scanner
To update or connect a scanner, follow these steps:
If you have not already done so, start Desktop and log in.
Connect the scanner to your PC.
Click Update Scanner.
Type Location Details.
In Physical Address, type an address such as a business address.
In Location at Address, type the scanner's location at that physical address, for example, Front Counter.
Click Next, and then select a device.
Barcode-only scanners include Zebra DS8108, E-Seek M260, and Honeywell Xenon 1950G.
Image-capture scanners include E-Seek M280, E-Seek M500, Digital Check, Ambir Image Scan Pro 687, and Desko Penta Scanner.
Click Save Changes.
If you selected a barcode-only scanner, such as Zebra DS8108, choose a COM port.
If you selected an image-capture scanner, such as E-Seek M280, then you're done.
Barcode-only scanners connect through a COM port. Select the correct port to establish a connection with the scanner, and then follow the instructions.
Make sure the scanner is connected and powered on.
If you do not see the correct COM port, reconnect the scanner, and then click Refresh to update the list.
Click Save Changes again. Scanner selection is complete.
